Nachdem sich die Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science für die 2024 Oscars neue Inklusionsregeln verordnet hatte, (deren Ziel - für mehr Diversität in der Filmproduktion zu sorgen - wir ausdrücklich begrüssen) standen bereits für dieses Jahr einige Änderungen bei den Oscars an – die diesmal allerdings eher den Sachzwängen der Coronapandemie geschuldet waren.
Obwohl die Oscarveleihung bereits auf ein späteres Datum verschoben worden war, haben es bekanntlich eher wenige Filme im letzten Jahr in die Kinos geschafft. Deshalb hat die Academy in diesem Jahr auch Produktionen von Streamingdiensten zugelassen, die keine Kinopremiere hatten (aber eine entsprechende Aufführung geplant hatten).
Außerdem wurde die Shortlist für Best International Feature Film von 10 auf 15 erweitert sowie die Stimmen des kleineren International Film Executive Committee in diesem Jahr abgeschafft, die bislang noch unabhängig weitere 3 Filme auf die Shortlist setzen konnten. Das IFE Comittee hatte – unserem Wissen nach – bislang eine Art Wildcard-/ Korrekturfunktion, um Filme auf die Shortlist zu setzen, die von dem Hauptkomittee (nach Filmbranche besetzt) nicht berücksichtigt oder schlicht übersehen wurden.
Wie dem auch sei: Die internationale Kritik scheint das Zutun des IFE Comittees bislang nicht sonderlich zu vermissen.
Wir haben noch nicht viele Filme der Shortlists gesehen und können uns persönlich daher noch kein Urteil zur Auswahl erlauben. Gefreut hat uns, dass es die kleine aber feine Geschichte „My Octopus Teacher“ von Pippa Ehrlich und James Reed auf die Shortlist geschafft hat. (Wer Lust auf eine außergewöhnlich interessante und zugleich bewegende Tierdoku hat – unbedingt ansehen).
Viel Vorschusslorbeeren hat in der Kategorie International Feature Film die dänische Produktion „Another Round” vonThomas Vinterberg mit dem fast immer großartigen Mads Mikkelsen erhalten. S. u. der verlinkte Trailer.
